Biography

Michael J. Barnes, Assistant Professor of Theatre–Head of the BFA in Acting program and Voice & Speech Specialist for Hilberry Rep and the Undergraduate acting program, is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma (BFA) and from The National Theatre Conservator (MFA), and is certified as an Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework. He has also taught at the University of Miami and Temple University. Regionally, he has coached for the Utah Shakespearean Festival, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Arena Stage, Wilma Theatre, Denver Center Theatre Company, Studio Theatre, Rep Stage Company, Pearl Theatre, People’s Light and Theatre, Venture Theatre, Everyman Theatre, and the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. He coached the films: Convicted (Aidan Quinn, Kelly Preston, Connie Nielson, Tim Daly; directed by Academy Award winner Bille August) and Broken Bridges (Kelly Preston, Toby Keith, Burt Reynolds, Tess Harper; directed by Steven Goldman). He is a member of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA), serves as their Dirctor of Technology and is a member of their Board of Directors
