CFPCA offers behind-the-scenes events for prospective students at WSU Open House...

Wayne State University’s Fall Open House is Saturday, October 20, 2012. The College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts offers several events for prospective students to attend, in addition to our department representatives being available for advising in the Student Center. RSVP online today!

Here are CFPCA's activities, which take place from 10:00 to Noon in the Art Department Gallery and locations in and around Old Main, including the Newnan Lobby of the Hilberry Theatre and theatre's costume and scene shops at 95 W. Hancock St.:

 

ART DEPARTMENT GALLERY ALUMNI EXHIBITION
Art Building
Use the main Community Arts entrance on the Reuther Mall.
Come visit with a current art student and see the depth and breadth of creativity of WSU alumni whose works spans five decades of artistic production.

 

ACTIVITIES IN AND AROUND OLD MAIN
Directions to the following events will be provided by CFPCA student representatives at the Cass Avenue entrance to Old Main.

COSTUME SHOP
Are you interested in costume design and construction? Visit our costume shop, where Professor Mary Copenhagen will give insights into the art and craft of costumes used in our theatre productions.

SCENE SHOP
Meet Professor Fred Florkowski behind the scenes and find out what our design and technical theatre students have been working on.

MINI ACTING WORSHOP (10:00 - 10:20, repeats 11:00 - 11:20)
Come and explore your passion for acting in an mini acting workshop led by one of our professors of acting.

DANCE AND THEATRE FACILITIES TOUR
Let us show you what makes our dance and theatre programs shine. Take a tour of our studio spaces and learn about successful alumni like Sonya Tayeh, guest judge and choreographer on “So You Think You Can Dance” and TV actor Dean Chekvala, who recently completed the latest season of HBO’s series “True Blood.”

FASHION DESIGN AND MERCHANDISING
Interested in apparel design or fashion merchandising? Tour the classrooms and labs where students develop their design and merchandising skills.

GRAPHIC DESIGN
Visit one of our graphic design labs and find out about the range of classes, from typography to web design.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Come explore our full range of digital and traditional photography facilities. View student work and talk with current students about the program.

MUSIC RECORDING STUDIO TOUR
Are you a practicing musician who has thought about producing your own music (or someone else’s)? Tour our digital music recording studio and find out about the latest electronics for audio engineering and recording.

MEDIA ARTS and STUDIES PRODUCTION SUITE TOUR
Whether you’re interested in being in front of or behind the camera, you’ll want to check out our production studio, where students in media arts and studies, film, and broadcast journalism gain hands-on experience early in their programs in preparation for internships and careers in the industry.

STRING PROJECT@WAYNE “PEEK IN”
The String Project is a laboratory school for string playing, where undergraduate string majors grow into excellent teachers and Detroit-area children receive high-quality, affordable instruction in violin, viola, cello or bass.
