The 2008 - 2009 Bonstelle Theatre Season

By Jean Giraudoux

The Madwoman of Chaillot, half bag lady and half nobility, resides in the city of Paris. Upon hearing businessmen striking up a shady, multimillion-dollar deal to dig for oil, she enlists the help of her odd friends to lure the businessmen to her home on the pretense of showing them an “oil well” beneath it. Is the countess able to stop the businessmen from destroying her beloved city? This comedy will keep you guessing all the way until the end.

Adaption by Lloyd Garrison and Roger Robb

George Bailey has sacrificed his big dreams for the good of his town his entire life. But this Christmas Eve, he is broken and suicidal over a misplaced $8000 loan and the plotting of an evil millionaire. His guardian angel falls to Earth, and shows him how his town, family, and friends would turn out if he had never been born. George meant so much to so many people; should he really throw it all away? Come and enjoy this treasured Christmas story this holiday season.

By Ntozake Shange

This adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s classic piece is staged during the Civil War and its aftermath. Shange’s version of Mother Courage and Her Children follows Mother Courage over a period of more than 10 years, as one by one her children — Enoch, Smoked Cheese and Katie — are taken away by the vicious war. As Mother Courage seeks to profit from the war that is killing her children, she questions the meaning of honesty, virtue and family in the face of a bitter struggle for survival.

By Mark O'Donnell, Thomas Meehan, Marc Shaiman, and Scott Whittman

Tracy Turnblad, a pleasantly plump teenager with all the right moves, is obsessed with the Corny Collins Show. After one of the stars of the show leaves, Corny Collins holds auditions to find a replacement. With the help of her friend Seaweed, Tracy makes it on the show, angering the evil dance queen Amber Von Tussle and her mother Velma. Tracy decides that it’s not fair that the African-American kids only get to dance on the Corny Collins Show once a month, and decides she’s going to integrate the show! Can she do it and preserve her ‘do?’ Find out next Spring!
